Success is often talked about in relation to improving or getting better....business is almost lives on the premise of the % growth year on year. This sometimes worries me, because I think growth for the sake of growth was relevant more in the days of mass (media + production).
For me success and growth is more about increasing and maintaining relevance which either maintains or even grows the margin. In this day and age, that is about quality of customers rather than quantity.
The more you focus on profitable relevance, the less you need volume for the sake of volume - which almost always dilutes the product, cuts back on investment or even research or risk.
3 key areas of focus in a world of mass information
- Relevance
- Value
- Surprise
