Business has historically been about a financial transaction - one of value.
Social media has amended that slightly, one could argue that now...it is a finanical transaction of value with an emotional transation of values.
However as social media transforms and evolves, as this phenomema of sharing moves through the business corridors from communication to marketing to sales....and through concepts such as 3D printing, to manufacturing...then that concept of the business financial model starts to look shaky.
My PhD is looking at how this financial business model will change as the customer becomes part of the supply chain.....and the more I read, the more I write about social marketing...the more I feel that we are on the verge of
"a social transaction based on 'valuables', leading to the need for social leadership....delivering a new social economic model"
From value = am I getting value for money...
From values and value = am I getting value for money from someone I trust
to a
Valuable Exchange of Ideas and Skills
Imagine a valuable exchange model which may involve ideas, contacts, services rather than money...it will involve social businesses providing the know how, accessibility, materials, connections to the customer producing their own products and ideas....
People seem to spend a lot of time, trying to incorporate social media into a traditional business model.....maybe that is the wrong way to view this change. Maybe it needs social media to design the business model that makes sense for the 21st Century?
Would love to hear from people who have ideas in this area....or from businesses which are starting down this path....anna@theengagingbrand.com
