Conversation is defined on my Mac's dictionary as
"the informal exchange of ideas by spokenwords"
From Middle English for ‘living among, familiarity, intimacy
Talking to a friend today, I was asked "How to optimise a conversation?" My answer was by
- Having a desire to learn from the other person
- Seeking ways that you can improve their life
- Being up to date with the news and wide ranging in your reading so you have loads to share
- Making sure that you smile through your words, actions and voice
To which the friend said..."yes, that is optimising for them though...not me how do I get MY message across"
My answer....."try a billboard, lecture or brochure" (with a huge grin)
Conversations must be an informal, exchange of ideas....if one of those parts are missing then you mean a different word. So to make social media or 'conversational marketing' word
Remember
Do you sound like someone in a converstation? See it as speaking to a good friend (not best friend as that will potentially be unprofessional for some of us!)
Do you exchange...a problem for a solution, a question with an answer...a problem for a tip etc
Do you share ideas? Ideas in terms of How to articles, other people's work/news, in developing a product.....
ideas are at the heart of any great content, the words are the vehicle but the idea is the fuel that allows you, the driver to take the customer on an experiential journey!
